Wear the best that you have, a nice dress or coat and tie if you have it, a pair of clean jeans if you don't. Don't avoid church because you don't have dress clothes, on the other hand, don't come in wearing short and flip flops if you have better things to wear.

I became an Alter server because it is as close to becoming a Priest as I can get, as with my learning disability I am not able to get the education they is required to become a Priest.

I was raised in a Catholic family and now I have my own little family of 3❤️. I hope with all my heart that my almost 2 year old son will become an altar server one day in the future if he wants to. I believe it is one of the most beautiful ways to serve Jesus Christ.

For a suit or waste jacket, trousers and shirt what's the most appropriate colours to wear? Grey, brown? Is blue or Navy blue okay? And I don't want to appear as though I am overly dressed well in case I draw to much attention - people can ezsily get distracted no matter whether it is modest or suggestive.

Be careful though not to judge the man in rags. The bible also talks about this. He said to not say to the man in rags and say sit on the floor and the man in nice clothes and gold to "Come up here!" The profits dressed in sackcloth and ashes.

Remember, the Bible says rend your hearts and not your garments. Book of Joel... And when speaking of King David it says ... Man looks on the outside but GOD looks upon the heart. We first must be kind and loving and helpful to other people, then once we have that pretty much covered then concern about clothes. Bible just tells us to be modest and not flashy. There were no pants for anyone in biblical times, so to tell women not to wear them is legalism. Now tight or sloppy pants are another issue. And many people were barefoot in biblical times so im sure GOD is not concerned about flip flops. Please read your Bible, people.

Attending Mass, shows your respect. Just go to Church. Whether you have fine clothes or not. You appear to be part of the problem with todays Catholic Church. Some folks dont even have "nicer" clothes. Shame on you.

As a Traditional Catholic, I dress the best that I can! Doesn't matter if its a mass in on Week days or Sunday, always try your best to dress appropriately

gosh thats alot of servers at a reguler Mass at our church [St.Josephs Catholic Church] there is only 3 people i am also an alter server and i consider being a priest but i dont know.

How do certain parishes change from girl altar servers to boys which is what's needed if there will be future priests?

Altar serving is a beautiful method of serving God. My little sibling is one.

When I was younger I always dressed casually to church but I would go every Sunday. My mom and dad would dress up more but not in a full suit. As I got older though, I started to pay attention to the sermons more and really absorbing the gathering of like minded people. As a result I started dressing better. Now when I go to church I either wear a full suit or at least a polo and slacks. Other than myself, there are probably only 2 or 3 other people who wear suits to church but what I've noticed is that there are a few more people who have been dressing up better overtime. I understand that you should 'come as you are' but I also think that you should show respect for God and Jesus just like you would if you would dress up for a wedding, funeral, meeting, interview, or any other occasion. But dressing in a way that doesnt put the attention on yourself but on who really matters during that event.

I think people should dress appropriately for mass, but I am sure our Lord would not mind how a homeless person dressed to mass.

stuff like this is horrible to see for someone like me who just started going to church for the first time and i cant afford nice church clothes yet.

I am not RC but the service is interesting....have been to Mass many times, including a funeral during which we were all invited to take Communion, which I found surprising. mind you it was a military Padre and funeral on base, and I always found them most ecumenical regardless of their faith. When I was active duty we had a RC Padre who had converted from Anglican, he was married and had children. Special dispensation from Rome.
